A year in the life of an unincorporated association – The establishment and activities of "Sukorói Összhang"
Júlia Lázár
Abstract
This case study presents the activities of the Sukorói Összhang Civil Society that was founded less than a year ago with the aim of protecting nature and the environment. Between January and December 2025, the unincorporated association carried out active public policy activities, protesting in several ways against a government investment classified as a "national economic interest", the "Center for Youth", and the associated private investments that could endanger the wildlife of the Sukorói shoreline and, ultimately, the entire Lake Velence. The protest to protect nature and the environment was also aimed at "forcing" necessary and effective government action in order to preserve the water supply and water quality of Lake Velence. This case study describes the history of the establishment of the Sukorói Összhang unincorporated association, the series of public forums, the demonstrations and actions based on the volunteer work of its members and supporting experts, as well as the topics of petitions and educational presentations and the method and circumstances of their organization. It also discusses the establishment of social media channels to inform members, supporters, local and wider interested public, and the professional activities of the unincorporated association that were performed in cooperation with other interested civil society organizations. Based on the results achieved so far, the members of the unincorporated association look forward to 2026 with confidence, and they promise not to back down when it comes to preserving the natural and environmental values of Lake Velence and the Sukoró shoreline.
